Treasure Your Passion
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:21
The farm has been such a busy place this past week! Between webinars, lambs, horses, and getting ready for maple syrup season, we have had plenty to do. One thing that we started this week is Logan's YouTube Channel.
Now many who know Logan, know that he is a shy, reserved kid that doesn't like to talk much until he gets to know you. After that it is pretty much game over because he is going to talk your ear off. With the ability to bring in a mini donkey to the farm, Logan jumped at the possibility to own the donkey himself. His dream is to be a donkey farmer! He and his brother work hard for their money and they do odd jobs for people and Logan stepped up to purchase the donkey with the stipulation that the donkey could work in the Therapy program and he had to join in on some lesson times. Well not only did that make Logan happy, we also talked about the idea of having a YouTube channel to show his adventures with his donkey because I feel that the two of them are going to be pretty inseparable. I have also been told that when the snow and ice melt they want to bring donkey to the house!!! So my life is about to get interesting.
Well this past week we started the channel and so far, Logan has two videos posted and honestly it's like a different kid! He is right in his element and he is doing great! He has great ideas of what he wants to do and he is telling the farm story in his own way. He is including facts about how to care for his donkey and the farm. You can just honestly see that farming is truly in his heart. It really is in all the boys because they love to farm, play farm, and talk about farming. This passion is better to watch come out in such unique ways.
The bible says that where our treasure is, our heart will also be (Matthew 6:21) and that is how I view our life. This farm, the land, the opportunities are truly a treasure and our hearts are in this 24/7. In the last three years, since the boys have been homeschooled; I have noticed that they are really passionate about it. They have been getting up early, getting their schoolwork done and heading out because we have lambs that need vaccinated, maple syrup to prepare for, an open farm day, and more. They can't wait for each thing that the day brings.
I often feel as though I am not actually farming alongside with them during these winter months as it is harder to take the little one out on really cold days, but someone also has to do the paperwork, marketing, and phone calls. These mediocre jobs all are involved with the passion that farming brings too so I often have to remind myself that I too am "farming."
To watch Logan feel in his element is such a blessing because I know at the end of the day, that their hearts are right where they need to be and they are certainly learning to be humble. I think that the future is bright for these future farmers that have a true passion for what we do here.
Each day may not go as planned and as things change it may get a little more crazy and time off the farm may be less and less, but when we lay our heads down that the end of the night we know that our hearts were taking care of our treasure all day long. This year may hold a lot of great things for the farming industry and even though we are struggling with costs, we are farmers and will not give up because at the end of the day We got to feed people!
Keep Farming with Faith & Family!
God Bless,
Amanda
