Time....

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.  Proverbs 16:9  Do you ever start your week and think how in the world is there ever going to be enough time to get all this stuff done?  That is me every week! Some times by Wednesday, I just say the heck with it and start over next week.  Other times, I plug away at each small thing on my to do list and hope that what ever doesn't make it's way to the complete side can wait till the next week.  I always find that "my self care" time is the one that ALWAYS ends up on the not complete side though and I really have tried to be more aware of that.  I mean I can't handle all these things that I juggle with out a little quiet time daily.   Some people think a farm is just taking care of animals, crops, and land but truly it is so much more! This is a business and in my world I am actually trying to make two businesses work. I often see posts about feeling guilty as a working mom becau...

New Life

If you bring a lamb as your gift, present it to the Lord.  Leviticus 3:7 One thing I love about the month of January is not only that it is the start of a New Year with a chance to create more stories in this journey we call life, but it is the start of new life here on the farm.  It's officially lambing season!  Lambing season always has it's many challenges between bottle babies, still born lambs, and many other problems that you pray never arise.  Every year we start out hoping we get through the lambing season with no bottle babies and all the moms do well.  Well this year it didn't take long.  Our first lamb was born on the 19th.  A big healthy boy and him and mom were doing great! Then two days later the second lamb followed.  This one a preemie, but appears healthy and ready to thrive. However, mom just didn't have milk ready so she ended up being the first bottle baby of 2021.  As much as the kids love having a bottle baby, it can be...

Generations of Wisdom

Image
Wisdom Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to those who have lived many years.  Job 12:12 This week the farm is a little quiet and still as winter sets in and we prepare for lambs. However, in all the quietness we are able to reflect on the last year. January of last year we lost a great man! A man who helped keep the farming passion alive in all of us who followed him. A man who I had looked up to and always felt was a great teacher and shared his wisdom daily.  Last year, I did the hardest thing he asked me to do in my life which was write his eulogy. How do you sit and write about someone who has inspired you to do what you love, someone who was teaching your kids the same passion, and someone who gave you so much of his wisdom that you worried you would forget it all? Being a generational farm, the next generation always looks to the older ones for their wisdom, but what happens when it is gone?  This past year was a year of so many changes and oftentimes we...

The Start of a New Year!

What Does It Mean to Be A Farmer?   "Because you listened to your wife and ate the fruit I told you not to eat, I have placed a curse on the ground.  All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it.  It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains.  All your life you will sweat to produce food, until your dying day.  Genesis 3:17-19 If you ever have had a garden, you know that making something grow is not the easiest task.  You have so many components that are all involved in growing that seed.  Will the seed itself germinate, did you plant it at the right time, deep enough, did the birds eat the seed, rabbits eat the sprout, is there enough rain, too much rain, food in the soil, and so much more! Farmers are always fighting something to make that seed grow.  Last season, it felt like we were fighting so much all the time to get those crops to grow and as I was reading Genesis the other day I realized that G...
