Raising the Next Generation
Train up a child the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
When we first decided that it was time to have children, I always hoped that God would bless me with a son. I never had a brother and so I wanted to experience a boy and the joys of tractors, bugs, dirt, etc from a boy's eyes. Little did I know that God would bless us with three amazing sons! I think God knew what he was doing because these boys LOVE farming and they take it seriously! They are involved in everything we do and they help make decisions as needed. You might wonder why we include them in some decisions, because this is their life too. This farm is their future and the choices we make today could affect them in the future.
For instance: purchasing equipment. That piece of equipment can last several years and we don't want to invest in something that they won't be able to use for their future plans. Or maybe they don't like the subscription box program or the amount of vegetables we grow. It seems they really actually do enjoy the vegetable gardening and the subscription program and so we are going to work hard to grow that program. Of course not only do we have the two older boys, but we now have Connor who is in the stage where sometimes things are hard but we are making it work. Connor enjoys going into the barn and the animals actually put him to sleep. It is so fun to watch him look around and see where he is as his views change frequently while doing stuff. I enjoy having the boys help us and be apart of all the decision making. I find that it is good for them and they have learned so much from being apart of everything we do. Just like it says in Proverbs, if we raise a child they way they should go they will not depart. I take that to mean to make sure that they are spiritually and physically raised properly. We enjoy talking about the way God wants us to be and how he wants us to care for his land and animals as farmers. I see my teachings reflected in their daily actions not only with their younger brother but also with how they approach different things. We are not a family that will pray out loud well but we tell each other the things we pray about and we all certainly have some mighty prayers going right now, but I love hearing them tell me they are praying for an animal, the tractor to get fixed, a friend, or many other things. I know that in the end these boys will be awesome turn into awesome men as long as this mom can survive their crazy antics. Especially as Logan tries to learn to ride a bike, Garrett wants a dirt bike, and Connor starts to learn to walk. I am excited to see where this farming adventure takes us, but for now I will continue to raise my boys on the farm!
Always Farming with Faith & Family!
God Bless
Amanda
